Mid-luxury restaurant ArtCaffe seeks to sue blogger Cyprian Nyakundi for defamation.
Through their lawyer Oraro & Company Advocates, ArtCaffe wants the blogger to pull down and delete some posts, he made which they consider injurious and defamatory.
“BREAKING: ArtCaffe is set to SHUT DOWN its core restaurant business in Kenya following punitive lockdowns initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Approximately 700 Kenyans will be retrenched. Few outlets will be converted to grocery stores. #EndOfAnEra#UnlockOurCountry“, a Twitter fan account of the blogger announced.
“Our instructions are therefore to demand, which we hereby do, that you immediately pull down and delete the said injurious and defamatory tweets and posts on the respective social media platforms and cease forthwith any false publications against our Clients. Our Client has always been available to issue any clarifications regarding any issues touching on it, which you have failed to explore before making the false and defamatory statements”, the demand letter stated.
The demand letter also warned the blogger that failure to delete the posts on his Twitter and Instagram accounts would lead to commencement of legal proceedings and at his own peril as to costs.
By the time of going to press, the blogger had not deleted the posts, sources tell Mahakamaninews.com that the blogger will be represented by Donald B. Kipkorir.
Netizens wondered if the demand letter was a advertisement of ArtCaffe due to its long nature and monologue. Others said they found no defamatory words in Nyakundi’s statements.
