A 26 year old middle class businessman has been charged with being in possession of a firearm without a certificate.
Dhiren Samji Patel was also charged with several counts of being in possession of ammunition without a firearm certificate, uttering and forging firearms certificateThe court heard that on 20th July 2018 at Balle Balle club in Parklands Nairobi, Patel was found in possession of a firearm make Smith and Wesson pistol serial No. HDS5632 without a valid firearm certificate.
On the same day at the club, Petel was found in possession of 8 love ammunitions 9mm. On 1st August 2018 at Kisumu Villas in Kisumu, he was again found in possession of 42 live ammunitions 9mm without a valid firearm certificate.
The father of one was further charged with making a firearm certificate No. 12256 without lawful authority or excuse, purporting it to be genuine and issued by the chief licencing officer of the firearm licencing board.The court further heard that on unknown dates within the republic of Kenya, Patel, with intent to deceive and without lawful authority or excuse, made a civilian firearm certificate identity card No. 12256 purporting it to be genuine.
The accused was also charged with uttering the forged the certificate and identity card at Balle Balle club on 20th.He denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku and was granted a bond of Sh 500,000 or alternative cash bail of sh 200,000.
The case will come up for pre trial on 17th August and will be heard on 8th October 2018.
