The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned 28 Nyandarua MCAs and two other officers from the county executive as it embarks on investigations into the possible loss of over Ksh.600 million county funds.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, EACC’s Central Regional Manager Charles Rusungu said they are analysing complaints received as they continue with investigations.

He added that they are seeking to conduct the grilling of the 30 people for an unspecified period of time.

The scandal is in relation to the MCAs receiving monies to refurbish their offices and another amount that was handed over to 12 nominated MCAs allegedly for Community Social Responsibility (CSR) at the height of COVID 19 pandemic during the same period. The investigations touch on the 2019/2020 financial year.

The monies ranging between Ksh.120,000 to Ksh.240,000 per MCA are said to have been deposited in their individual accounts directly, an act that raised suspicion given the existing strict procedures of utilising public funds

In relation to the officers at the county offices, Rusungu said they are investigating allegations that the two officers transacted Ksh.500 million without proper justification while on acting capacity.

Wanjohi ward MCA Isaack Wanjiru who was grilled at the office Tuesday morning claimed the allegations against them were purely political while pointing a finger at embattled assembly speaker Ndegwa  Wahome

The EACC regional boss said that those who will be found with a case to answer will be charged.
