Alfred Keter, a Member of Parliament from Nandi Hills, has been charged again in connection with the Ksh633 million fraud case.
Keter pleaded not guilty to eleven charges of conspiracy to defraud the Central Bank of Kenya of the aforementioned sum by submitting fake treasury notes No 1138 dated February 5th, 1990 before a Nairobi Court.
Alfred is charged alongside Madat Saburari Chatur after the prosecution removed the second accused person Arthur Ingolo Sakwa who died this year.
The legislator is also facing another count of making a false document contrary to the law.
“Madat Saburari Chatur and Alfred Kiptoo Keter, you’re charged that on unknown date and place within the republic of Kenya jointly with others not before the court with intent to defraud and without lawful authority made treasury bills No. 1138 valued at Ksh 286M purporting it to be genuine and valid bills issued by the Central bank of Kenya ” the charge sheet read in part.
Through their lawyer, Stanley Kangai, the accused persons asked the court to maintain the bond terms issued by the previous court since they have been cooperative.
The MP who was charged in 2018 is out on a cash bail of Ksh2M.
The prosecution through state counsel Anderson Gikunda told the court that they are ready to proceed with the hearing of the matter and asked the court to fix early hearing dates.
Chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni fixed hearing dates for August 2021.
