The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT); National Executive Council (NEC) clashed in court with Wilson Sossion on Tuesday 10 September, 2019.

The matter before the Employment and Labour Relations court concerned the validity of a court order issued last week that reinstated Mr. Wilson Sossion as the Secretary General of KNUT.

Through his lawyer Okong’o Omogeni, KNUT Chairman, Mr. Wycliffe Omuchei denied being given a copy of the reprieve order citing that he was in a hospital outside Nairobi on the alleged day when the court order was issued.

However, Hon Wilson Sossion through his lawyer said that the court order (which annulled the August 29,2019 meeting whereby NEC members ousted the nominated MP) had been served to Mr. Omuchei on behalf of other NEC members the same day that it had been issued by the Employment and Labour Relations Court.

Aside from the order, the Nyamira Senator, Mr Omogen’i told the court that Sossion contravened KNUT’s constitution by calling off the August 29,2019 NEC meeting as it was not within his mandated purview. He further stated that the reason why Mr. Sossion was ousted by the NEC inter alia was because he had acted ultra-vires severally through issuance of strike notices without resolution of relevant organs aside from sacking and sending on compulsory leave full-time employees without consulting the NEC.

Justice Hellen Wasilwa said that she will deliver a ruling in two weeks time on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 as to whether the court order that granted Mr Sossion repreive remains in place or be set aside.
