Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has been accused of tampering with evidence in a case where he is accused of attempted rape.

The lead investigator in the case, police officer Keith Robert told a Nairobi court on Wednesday that they are now conducting further investigations into an offence of destroying evidence with respect to the nude photographs and nude videos linked to the incident.

According to the officer, detectives believe that Linturi played a key role in the deletion of the said material and that forensic analysis and reconstruction of the evidence on mobile phones is currently being conducted.

“Investigations into the complaint made by the complainant were conducted objectively, conclusively and in the best interests of justice,” submitted the officer in court documents.

“The prayers sought that the application to have the matter before court terminates for failure to provide documents that may not be in our possession would not get the justice that she so rightfully deserves,” reads court papers.

In the application, Linturi is also seeking an abstract from Nanyuki Police Station dated 30th January 2021, nude photographs and videos that the complainant and the prosecution witnesses took at Maiyani Villas in Nanyuki where the incident allegedly happened.

However, Keith says that they do not have any abstract of the Nanyuki Police station.
