The proprietor of a five-story building that collapsed on November 17 in Ruaka Town, Kiambu County, is expected to face murder charges in court.
Jenniffer Kamau was arrested by investigators on Monday at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while attempting to exit the country (JKIA).

In a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mrs Kamau is set to answer to murder charges and other offences following the death of two tenants in the tragedy.Â
“Jenniffer Kamau, who was arrested as she fled the country, will answer to the offenses of criminal negligence and murder, contrary to section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code,” wrote DCI.
DCI added that four other officials from the Kiambu County Planning Department shall also face similar charges at the Kiambu Law Courts today, Tuesday, November 22.
Meanwhile, the owner of another building that collapsed in Ruiru on Monday will also be arraigned at a Ruiru court.
On Sunday, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi who visited the site said that the building was visibly weak and had all indications that its construction was not done well.
Kiamwangi MCA Kungu Smart, addressing the media in Ruiru town, urged the County government to suspend some ongoing construction to allow an audit to be conducted.
Stephen Ngaruiya will be answering charges of constructing a building without the requisite approvals.
The building collapsed hours after more than 100 tenants were evacuated when cracks were seen on its pillars on Sunday afternoon.
