On Monday 16 September, 2019 Justice Jessie Lessit postponed the plea taking of Sarah Wairimu. This is after it was highlighted before the court that she was yet to visit a psychiatrist for purposes of undergoing a mental assessment test. The accused has been in custody since August 28, 2019.
The court directed that Mrs Sarah Cohen should undergo a mental exam within the next seven days.
The judge also agreed to a pleading from the defense lawyer Philip Murgor whereby he had requested to argue her clients bail application after taking she takes plea on September 26.
The judge further directed that the accused should remain in remand at Lang’ata Women Prison for the next 10 days.
Off the record, State Counsel, Nicholas Mutuku said that the prosecution would oppose request for bail application and moreover they were ready to table evidence against the accused.
